The TMQ Community Draws! From #BellaSaraMay to #Junicorn and beyond!

If you follow some artists on social media, you will no doubt have heard of one or the other monthly drawing challenge: from Inktober to Mermay, various such community events have popped up over the years.

Their purpose and “rules” vary, but often a list of prompts or subjects will be shared before the start of the month, with artists then being encouraged to post a drawing a day, using the daily prompt and the challenge’s overall subject for inspiration.

Although it can quickly turn into a source of stress when taken too seriously or added on top of an already taxing workload, there is a beauty and sense of community in seeing different artists share their own interpretation of the same idea.

In our Horses and Video Games Discord Community, we have a whole bunch of artists in various mediums. In late April, the idea for a Bella Sara Challenge was shared in the Community. Bella Sara is a collectible card game franchise focused on fantasy horses.

Seeing a handful of community members upload their wonderful drawings every single day has been amazingly inspiring: so much so that when May came to an end, I myself decided to participate in the #Junicorn challenge: Drawing a unicorn every on day of June. Much motivated by the community and the tenacity of those participating in #BellaSaraMay, I refreshed some long-neglected digital painting skills.

The Bella Sara May challenge was initiated by artist Paige Bengert. Find her own contributions on her instagram.

Junicorn has been around for a while, but we followed the prompt list proposed by artist Anderson Carman. Find his own contributions on his instagram.

The prompt lists for both drawing challenges. For Junicorn, there were definitely other versions available, but this is the one we followed. If you dabble in horse drawing yourself, I highly recommend joining our Discord, where we don’t only talk about horses in games but also like giving each other feedback and constructive criticism on horse anatomy when desired!

And that’s about enough words for a post about images. Please enjoy the horse art of our wonderful community members and my own contributions!

I decided to sort them by artist, but I do strongly recommend you scroll around a bit to compare the different interpretations of the same characters/ideas where available!
