A Sneak Peek at “Rewrite: Fantasy” – An Upcoming Mobile RPG with Elaborate Horse Features
Rewrite: Fantasy is a title that first came to my attention in Spring last year, when the game’s Twitter Account shared a short video of a horse and rider, promising that horses would be used to solve puzzles and fight battles. Needless to say, I was intrigued and asked for more information.
The game’s team revealed that players would be able to tame wild horses and teach them abilities, as well as buy horses and customize their appearance.
In the time since, the Rewrite: Fantasy team has been busy: Project Lead Nicole Johnson reached out to TMQ this week, with a bunch of good news and interesting tidbits about the upcoming game and its horses. I am excited to share this with you all:
The Game
Rewrite: Fantasy is an adventure role-playing game coming to iOS and Android in Summer 2020. According to the project’s press kit, the game features a 2D side-scrolling overworld, a character driven story, and a turn-based battle system. Players can quest, explore, and battle their way through a hand drawn world.
The studio behind the game is Ka Moa Media from Honolulu, Hawaii. After working in web design and apps in the past, Rewrite: Fantasy is the developers’ first game project.
The player takes on the role of Avris, a woman on a quest to clear her name and find out to free the Kingdom of the Remnants, dark creatures with the power to rewrite reality.
The Horses
“Horses play such an important role in the story that the original name of the game was The Heros’ Horse,” Nicole reveals in her email to The Mane Quest. “The locations in Rewrite: Fantasy are based on horse breeds. The initial release of the game takes place in Sorraia and the protagonist is from Percheron.”
A recently released gameplay trailer shows a glimpse at one of the Remnants, a shadowy horse creature that makes for a recurring opponent in Rewrite: Fantasy.
“Every major location has a quest that involves tracking down and gentling a wild horse,” Nicole goes on. “After the player has bonded with the horse, they are able to ride it.”
From the central spot in the game’s promotional art at the top, to the commitment of naming location after horses, it definitely appears like the horses are an integral part of the upcoming RPG. Their role is not only relevant in the story and setting, but also in terms of functionality: “While riding a horse, players will not encounter any enemies,” says Nicole, “making horses the fastest way to travel.”

Note: The game currently lists the US, Canada and Japan as supported regions. The Mane Quest has reached out to the team for clarification about where the game will eventually be available.
