In a press release this month, Star Stable Entertainment AB has shared some interesting insights into their game’s growth: The company reveals that many performance indicators such as daily active users, revenue and gameplay hours have significantly grown in the past few years.
You can find the full press release here, if you’re interested in the business side of Star Stable Online.
Notably, SSE shares the following numbers from 2020:
53% increase in total gameplay hours to 109 million hours
39% increase in average daily active users to 152K
26% increase in average monthly active users to 633K during Q4 2020
25% growth in average monthly active users in Q1 2021 compared with Q1 2020
2020 revenue was $44M, roughly 50% annualized revenue growth
Expansion into books, music, animated series a success
“We are committed to continuing to deliver innovative, high-quality content that our fans have come to expect from us and to be a hub for today’s tween/teen girls,” says CEO Johan Sjöberg
SSE now reports 500k Monthly Active Users and says this is an increase from 300k in 2020. Back in 2019, then Product Owner Nika Bender already reported 500k MAUs to The Mane Quest, suggesting that either there has been some fluctuation in between.
For fans of Star Stable Online, all of this is of course good news: the game’s financial success means that more resources can be invested in improving and expanding it.
Personally I also keep hoping that this game’s lasting prosperity can inspire other game publishers to take a closer look at this genre and audience. Because although I appreciate Star Stable Online for what it is, I have no doubt that some serious competition would be a benefit for every player in the horse game niche.
Today we get to look at two recently released horse games that may have flown under your radar.
Both of these games came to my attention because their creators used the TMQ communities to find interested players. They might not fulfill every horse game dream you’ve had, but they’re sure worth a look if you’re willing to try something new and support independent developers at a very affordable price tag.
