[REDACTED] TMQ wants YOU to write your own Horse Game Article for the upcoming Community Section!

Update May 2024

So a few years ago, I thought that adding articles written by other people would be a cool way to cover more content on TMQ. I received a few pitches and drafts (THANK YOU!) but I kept having to put the project on hold because I ended up putting my limited TMQ-time into other priorities.

I am officially retiring this project for the time being.

In order to run this community article section the way I originally intended, I’d end up investing time into editing and organizing instead of actually researching and producing content myself. I’ve come to realize that that’s not actually what I want most – and since TMQ remains a hobby project that I do in my leisure time for free, I’m taking the liberty of prioritizing what I want.

I’m a little sad about this because I still think there’s cool opportunities in growing TMQ to include more people, but the only way this would start making sense is if I had a co-editor who I fully trusted to manage this entire project for me.

Thanks for understanding, and many thanks to those of you who sent me drafts or pitches. 🙏

My dear horse game fans and lovely readers, I hope you will join me on a little experiement: I want to launch a new section on this website where other horse game enthusiasts can contribute articles.

Is there a game or subject that you’ve always wanted TMQ to cover? Here’s your chance!

How it works

  1. You send me a pitch for your article to alice@themanequest.com, or as a DM on Twitter (@TheManeQuest) or on Discord (Alice#9530). Your initial pitch should consist of a working title and an abstract (a brief summary of what topic(s) you intend to cover). If you can, please also send some examples of your writing (blog posts, articles, twitter threads, whatever).

  2. Once I’ve approved your pitch, you draft your article and assemble the visual material (screenshots, gifs, stock photos) that your article needs. You send me your draft as a Google Doc so I can make comments and editing suggestions.

  3. As soon as we have 2-3 Community articles ready, the Community section will go online on themanequest.com.

Types of content

The content of the community section should be in line with what you’ve come to know and expect from TMQ: Reviews of current horse games, nostalgic revisiting of old horse games, analyses of trends or changes in game horses, or detailed deep dives into the horsie features of specific game series are all more than welcome!

You’ve always wanted to analyze how The Legend of Zelda’s Epona has changed through the decades? This is your chance. You have a listicle of your favorite carriage types in Red Dead Redemption 2 in your mind? Go ahead and share! You remember that one obscure horse game that nobody ever seems to talk about and you want to point out just what was so great about it? We love to hear it.

The possibilities are endless and I am excited to hear about what you’d like to share with the growing TMQ readership!

Additional Notes

  • Sending a pitch or draft is no absolute guarantee that your work will be published. If I have to decline a pitch I will do my best to give feedback though.

  • I cannot offer financial compensation for guest authors at this time. As you may know, The Mane Quest does not generate any revenue.

  • I do not want to launch this section before we have some content assembled. At the moment, one community article draft is ready for publication. At least one or two more are needed for them all to go live.

So what are you waiting for? Here’s your chance to share your horse game opinions with the world… or at least with our readers ;)
