An Exclusive First Look at the Irish Cob in Horse Tales: Emerald Valley Ranch
Disclaimer: This article is about a game that I am very closely involved with. I work for developer Aesir Interactive and am the Creative Producer on this project.
With the initial announcement of Horse Tales – Emerald Valley Ranch (find that right here if you missed it), publisher Microids revealed that the Limited Edition of the game would include an additional horse breed: the Irish Cob. It is with great pleasure that I get to share a proper first look at the additional horse model with you all today.
And some extra good news for those of you who are playing on PC or are getting the digital console version: You will be able to get the Irish Cob and additional “Limited Edition” content as a DLC purchase on all platforms!
Remember that the physical limited edition still comes with some additional goodies like stickers and postcards though, in case you’re undecided on which version to get.
As for how you can expect the Irish Cob to work in the game, I’ll gladly shine some light on that as well:
The primary horse breed in the game is the Selle Français. It was initially chosen as the main breed because of its versaitility, its color variety and because it fit our setting inspiration. Once you have the Irish Cob unlocked, you can find the Cobs along with the Selles as wild horses all across the game world. All customization items such as saddles, bridles and leg wraps as well as mane and tail styles will be useable on either breed.
You can cross-breed Cobs and Selles, but the offspring will always use the model of one breed or the other and be labelled a “Mixed Draft” or “Mixed Warmblood” rather than a purepred Irish Cob or Selle Français.
Cobs and Selles have no other “mechanical” difference, and they can generally spawn in all colors and with all traits.
Wishlist the game on Steam, if you haven’t already, or preorder it for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 at your local retailer. Horse Tales Emerald Valley Ranch will be released in Europe on November 3rd and in North America on November 15th 2022.
